We are looking for a Full Stack Developer to help shape and build the future of the Client's tools and products.
This role is less focused on churning through tickets in a backlog and more on figuring out what product is building and why, helping to design new products, and driving value for our team and our customers.
The client is the UK’s leading online marketplace for heating oil, helping hundreds of thousands of customers get a better price and a more convenient service by connecting them impartially with nearly all suppliers in the market.
Responsibilities:
- Working with cross-functional teams as a core contributor to product feature development across all parts of the product, delivering real features to our customers.
- Ensuring the best performance and user experience for web and mobile applications.
- Contributing neat and well-structured code which defends the integrity of the codebase and aligns with the technical direction of the team.
- Helping to evolve the system organically and without over-engineering, promoting simplicity and working software.
- Documenting technology systems and tuning up eCommerce funnels, as well as optimizing and implementing recommendations from the marketing team.
- Owning decisions regarding the data store, application layer and front-end.
- Collaborating with team members and other areas of the business, with an emphasis on sharing knowledge through the team.

Promoting a culture of quality within the team:
- setting standards for code reviews;
- emphasizing developer testing and practices such as RDD;
- ensuring clean code refactoring, and SOLID disciplines;
- driving continuous integration/deployment.
- Fostering technical improvement within the team (e.g. via show-and-tells, demos, proof-of concepts, pet projects etc.).
- Fixing the occasional bug!
Requirements
- Full stack experience writing readable and maintainable code.
- Strong understanding of agile, lean and DevOps principles.
- Strong understanding of testing and CI/CD.
- 3+ years of development in JavaScript / HTML / CSS.
- 3+ years of development with Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
- A collaborative approach to problem solving and the desire to work in a small, autonomous team.
Desired:
- Exposure to other mainstream technologies (e.g., PHP)
- Experience with component libraries (e.g., Bootstrap)
- Experience of a LAMP stack.
- Working knowledge of infrastructure as code tools
